May '100 Competition' winner - Graham Wilson.

We have had another fantastic week of golf here at HDA with nearly 100 players taking part in our two mid-week competitions!

On Tuesday 31 May we had our seventh instalment of our very popular '100 Competition'.

45 players took to the course, and (no doubt buoyed on by the great prize on offer) posted some fine scores.

In the Men's Category 1, Geoff Hill edged out Andrew Mitchell on lower handicap - both with 36 points.

Paul Mayne showed some great form in scoring 39 points to win the Men's Category 2.

And, in the Ladies Category runner-up Catherine Sachinis with 35 points was pipped by one point by winner Sue Hill with 36 points.

In the Men's Category 3, Roy Hymers was runner-up with 32 points... however the performance of the day belonged to Graham Wilson with a superb 40 points.

Congratulations to Graham our May '100 Competition' winner!

Graham collected his €100 voucher from Geoff Hill and also a box of TaylorMade TP5 balls (worth €58) donated by The Great Golf Company, Balsicas. The perfect prize for a great performance.

Once again a big 'thank you' to Norbert Petersen, Graham Sparkes and The Great Golf Company for their continued support.

The next '100 Competition' is scheduled for ???

The 'Italian Job' winners - Andrew Haigh and Steve Forbes.

And so on to Thursday 2 June... and to celebrate the 'Festa della Repubblica', the Italian National Day, we played the 'Italian Job' Four Ball Better Ball Pairs competition!

Thanks to sponsors Norbert Petersen, Graham Sparkes and the Little Sicily Restaurant, the winning pair (in addition to their normal vouchers) would win a meal for four (value up to €200!!!) at Little Sicily in Los Alcazares.

What a great prize... thank you to our sponsors!

Players joined in with the occasion by wearing the colours of the Italian flag - red, green and white... or some in the blue of the 'gil Azzurri' (the Italian national football team!).

Many players also enjoyed a delicious bacon roll and a coffee/tea before taking to the course with their chosen partner... we had 24 teams taking part so the competition was going to be tough!

In the Mixed and Ladies Pairs Category, runners-up Sue Winder and Eddie Doubtfire were edged-out by the winners Heather Janney and Andy Mitchell on lower handicap - both pairs with a great score of 42 points.

But, the scoring in the Men's Category was even better...

Runners-up John Smith and Paul Higgins posted a (normally!!!) match winning score of 43 points - but it wasn't to be!

The winners of the 'Italian Job' competition and the €200 voucher for Little Sicily were Andrew Haigh and Steve Forbes with a truly fabulous score of 45 points.

Congratulations to you both... after a couple of near 'misses' lately it was good for the boys to cling on to this one...

And, on that note, it was noticeable how the warmth of love from their respective 'misses' skyrocketed after they claimed their voucher - and dinner for four... one wonders why???

On the final green the players were asked to guess the number of red, green and white balloons in the Mini (as in the Italian Job!!!). The winner was Karen Leavy who guessed correctly with 142 balloons!

To finish off the day, nearly 50 players and guests enjoyed a delicious lasagne and garlic bread meal on the Club House balcony.

There are a number of key people who contributed to the success of the event...

Our sponsors, Norbert Petersen, Graham Sparkes and Little Sicily Restaurant, the halfway house ladies, Louise Haigh and Jan Forbes-McDowell, the Club House for preparing the lovely lasagne and garlic meal and Simon Parks for the use of his car (!) and his photography of the event!

Thank you all.
