Dani of UGolf presenting the the St. Georges's Day Trophy to winners, Lee Roe & Imelda Brady

It was yet another beautiful but yet another blustery day at Hacienda on the 18th of April. Thirty-two 4 ball, better ball pairs turned out in dazzling white and some very dodgy shades of red ready to dispute the St. George’s Day Trophy and everyone looked wonderful! Thanks to all for making the effort – red can be a hard colour to find at times. Appropriately, it was red tees for ladies and .. (Sorry guys), white for men. 'Who made that *** rule up?,' was the cry of many.

Simon of HDA Homes, due to prior appointments, was unable to make his usual appearance on tee 1 to take pictures of the tee-off, and we thank Frank and Christine Roe for stepping in to grab a few pics with their tablet and camera. (Don’t worry Christine, we’ve deleted your unintended selfies ;-). However, Simon did make it back to the 18th to snap the windblown warriors taking their last putts of the day. Thanks yet again, Simon! The pictures can be seen on Simon’s HDA Homes Facebook page.

Both the Halfway House and a very nice meal of fish & chips on the Clubhouse balcony were sponsored by UGolf. ¡Muchas gracias, Eduardo! Thanks also to our lovely girls, Jan and Louise who at least managed to grab a few rays between gusts of wind. The rolls were delicious as always! Just before the presentation, we also got the chance to welcome Carlos, the new ONA Hotel Manager, who said a few words about his ethos and plans to organise entertainment evenings for members and hotel guests.

Dani, of UGolf, was there to present the beautiful St. George’s Trophy There were high scores all round so quite a few hopeful faces at the prize-giving. The Men’s category runner-up pair, with a not-too-shabby 40 pts., were John Smith and Lee Harrington, while the winners of the Men’s category, coming in with an admirable 42 points, were Gareth Woolnough and Peter Whitehead!

The Mixed and Ladies’ team Category 3rd place went to Linda & Adrian Kernahan, with a great 41 pts, just pipped at the post by Louise and Martin Hay, who got 2nd place with a fabulous score of 43 pts.

However, Louise and Martin had only just missed out … as it was the score of 44 pts. that came out tops on the day with the Mixed Category winners, Lee Roe and Imelda Brady, (mostly thanks to Lee, who couldn’t seem to miss a putt all day …) snatching the Trophy from under their noses. (Sorry guys, blame Lee!)

Congratulations to all the Category prize winners!

The Nearest the Pin winners were, Men’s hole 12: Tim Shilling and, Ladies' hole 5 : Sue Winder while the Longest drive prizes were secured in the Men’s Cat. by Florian Fleck – hole 4 and, Ladies’ on hole 18 by Louise Hay. Well done guys!

As many of you may know by now, Lee has decided to leave his position as Marshall at UGolf. Lee has always enjoyed working with HDA Members – he especially appreciates those of us who show great golfing etiquette as well as respect for the course. He would also like to point out that it is mostly visiting groups who cause issues of slow play, not raking bunkers and driving buggies wherever they please, and not HDA members – so we shouldn’t be too hard on ourselves.

So, Hasta luego, Lee! You will be missed I’m sure; however, let’s look on the bright side… HDA gets a player back and, yay! Imelda gets a social life back!

See you all for our next big Boarded Competition: The Annual HDA Club Championship on the 3rd and 4th of June!

Warm wishes

Imelda Brady
