The Mayne Man!!!

The April 100s Individual Stableford competition brought a total of 59 players out of the woodwork on Tuesday 4th to dispute the much-desired €100 cheque that Spencer Kelly of Home Space Group generously donates to HDA Golf Committee each month.

Tee times were somewhat disparate as two groups teed off between 8:20 and 8:30, while the rest of the 13 three or fourballs got at least another hour's sleep, if not two ... and the final flight left tee 1 at 12.27. However, there was a silver lining .. as those of us who had risen at dawn managed to get a little siesta in before the prize giving at 5 pm on the Club House balcony.

Peter Whitehead, HDA Committee Chair gave us the great news that, due to refurbishments at the hotel, the Club House bar will open from 7 am to 11 pm each day. However, joy was short-lived as the new times are, apparently, only for the next week or two (?) until the hotel reopens its facilities. Boo hoo!

So, there we were, camera poised to present the €100 cheque, but ... much to the dismay of the Committee and Spencer, we realised that overall winner, Paul Mayne, had scarpered off home, clearly not impressed with his 39 points! A quick phone call had him scarpering back to the Club House for the presentation. Phew! Congratulations, Paul on a great score and a very well-deserved prize! Paul came top in Men's category 2 also receiving the awarded prize in that group. As you can see below, scores were tight, averaging 37-38 points across categories. Andy Mitchell, Liam Dolphin, and Kevin Leavy, each with a fantastic score of 38 points (Congratulations!), maybe mulled over where on the course they left that ONE shot they needed to match Paul! What can I say .... there will be a next time!
