Popular Winners of the Robbie Burns Trophy!

Steve Lizimore and Cecil Tassie - Robbie Burns Winners 2022.

As we moved into the last week of January we had the first HDA Golf Members' Committee Boarded Competition of 2022...

On Tuesday 25 January we played the 'four ball better ball' pairs competition for the fabulous Robbie Burns Trophy... the 25th is the official Robbie Burns Day celebrating the birth and life of the famous Scottish poet.

With a shotgun start at 9am, 56 players (thats 28 pairs!) ... and the Club House serving coffee and bacon rolls before play - we were all set for a great competition.

The day started a tad chilly but like the scoring began to warm up as the morning progressed.

Fortunately the ladies of the halfway house, Louise Haigh and Jan Forbes McDowell, were on hand to keep us refreshed with beer, cava, soft drinks and sandwiches... and even a wee nip of Whisky to keep us suitably energised!

After four and a half hours of 'fierce' competition the players retired (in glorious sunshine!!!) to the Club House for celebratory (?) refreshment and the presentation of the Trophy.

In the Mixed and Ladies Pairs Angus and Catherine McLanders somehow managed to scramble to 35 points to finish runners-up. The clear winners with 38 points were the pairing of Gina Wagemans and Roy Hymers with 38 points.

The scoring in the Men's Category was significantly tighter...

The runners-up with a fine round of 41 points were Andrew Haigh and Steve Forbes - pipped by one point by Steve Lizzimore and Cecil Tassie with 42 points.

Congratulations to Steve and Cecil who took the Robbie Burns Trophy... Steve is certainly on a 'trophy-roll' after securing the Founder's Trophy in 2021 - could he be the 'one to watch' in 2022?
