Tuesday 29 December will be a day long remembered by the golfers at HDA as they ‘battled’ for the St Andrews Day trophy on the hallowed turf of the HDA Golf Course. This year the event was kindly sponsored by The Home Space Group.
We may not have seen the ‘Flower of Scotland’... but boy did we have some proper Scottish weather!
The 64 golfers, in 32 better-ball teams, were welcomed onto the first tee with bright sunshine and near gale force northerly winds!

This may not have been Bannockburn, but the stage was set for an almighty fight for the trophy…
Fortunately, the halfway house was fully stocked with ale and tasty sandwiches to provide sustenance to the mighty warriors… there was even a nip of whisky for those searching for a little extra fortitude.
Navigating each ‘wee bit hill and Glen’ was proving tricky… but on such a blustery day the scoring was quite remarkable as the players ‘fought and died’ for the right to win the trophy.
Eventually the battle was finished and the weary field retreated to the Club House balcony to be rewarded with some fine tapas and no doubt a glass of ale or two… before the presentation.
And… the result couldn’t have been closer!
In third place, was the courageous team of Angela Pendlebury and Tam Henderson with a superb score of 45 points.

They only lost out to the eventual runners-up on lower handicap as Lee Harrington and John Smith took the second place prize, also with 45 points.

But, to the ‘victor go the spoils’… and with a ‘right royal’ score of 46 points it was the team of Peter Bethell and Paul Janney who sent the rest of the field ‘homeward, tae think again’.

The victorious team were presented with the trophy by Spencer Kelly of the Homes Space Group… they also both received a bottle of Cardhu 12 single malt whisky kindly donated by Lindsay Laing. Thank you Lindsay!
A big thank you to Martyn and Louise Haigh for their valiant work in the halfway house - much needed on the day!
Also, thank you to Jacob and his team at the Club House for the excellent post match tapas.
And finally, thanks to Spencer and Yasmin at the Home Space Group for sponsoring the competition… really appreciated by all the Members.
O flower of Scotland
O flower of Scotland
When will we see your like again
That fought and died for
Your wee bit hill and glen
And stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again
The hills are bare now
And autumn leaves lie thick and still
O'er land that is lost now
Which those so dearly held
And stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again
Those days are passed now
And in the past they must remain
But we can still rise now
And be the nation again
That stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again
