It Certainly Was Another Great Golf Day!!!

On Thursday 15 December we enjoyed another really 'Great' day of golf here at HDA with the second annual instalment of 'The Great Golf Day' sponsored by The Great Golf Company, Balsicas.
The 71 players in 18 teams enjoyed a shotgun start in slightly chilly conditions at 9am... but it didn't take long for the temperature and the golf to heat up!
The scoring was simply sensational... and also very tight at the top...
In third place, with a score of -13 were Peter Whitehead, Steve Martindale, Albert Brown and Paul Mayne. Each player received a Titleist golf cap.
They were edged out of the runners-up spot on lower handicap by Andrew Haigh, Steve Forbes, Gary Sherwood and Paul Foreman... also on -13. Each player received a box of Taylormade Tour Response golf balls.
However, our Great Golf Day winners were Francisco Reventos Lopez, Francisco Munoz Manogil, Francisco Cavas Garcia and Jose Pagan Torres with a superb round of -14. They all received a lovely red Taylormade golf bag.
Congratulations... good work fellas!!!
A big thank you to Louise Haigh and Jan Forbes McDowell for, once again, providing a super halfway house... a choice of sandwiches, drinks, sweets and a tipple - what's not to like!!!
In addition to sponsoring the main prizes The Great Golf Company also sponsored individual prizes for -
Closest to the Pin - Imelda Brady for the Ladies (hole 5) and Peter Whitehead for the men (hole 15).
Longest Drive - Karen Leavy for the Ladies (hole 18) and Andy Mitchell for the Men (hole 4).
Each player received a sleeve of balls and a snood for the cooler winter days to come!
We also had two 'draw' prizes on the day...
Golf for two with a buggy at El Valle, kindly donated by Graham Sparkes and Norbert Petersen, and won by Steve Lizzimore.
And, a one and a half hour training session, kindly donated by The Great Golf Company, and won by Francisco Cavas Garcia.
Finally a huge thank you to Keith Morrison and his team from The Great Golf Company for sponsoring the event... and for promising to do it all again next year. The Great Golf Day has established itself as a 'highlight' competition in our golfing calendar here at HDA.

In mentioning Keith and the boys it would be slightly remiss of me if I didn't mention their 'team' score of -15... however, as they had a couple of 'ringers' in their team (aks Pros) they had to accept a very friendly 'disqualification'!!!
As a sign of our appreciation The Great Golf Company team were presented with a rather nice box of red wine.
