SAUNDERS & SACHINIS STEAL THE CHAIR(WO)MAN'S 2024 CUP!

Tuesday 30th January was the date set for Peter Whitehead's first Chairman's Cup competition. The format was 4 Ball, Better Ball and 28 teams turned out to compete for the trophy with a medley of Men's, Ladies' and Mixed Pairs.
Putting competition & Raffle
The day started off at 08:30 under a cloudy sky and fresh temperatures with very successful putting for wine competition and it must be said that HDA Golf Members were more than generous with their storecupboard donations. We even have bottles left over for the next putting comp!
Tired players were treated to chicken paella, courtesy of Carlos (Ona Hotel Manager) as well as a complimentary drink at the aprés golf event on the Clubhouse balcony. A raffle then took place with some great prizes donated by members and residents - huge thank you goes to Thomas, our resident Pro (lesson vouchers), Eddie Doubtfire (training voucher), Gina Wageman (sports massages), Carole Mitchell for one of her beautiful paintings and Graham and Barbara Wilson for their mystery prizes. A fantastic total of €480 was raised between the putting comp and raffle. These funds have been added to the extremely generous donation by Ian Shrimpton and Dee Amend of €2,500 for the Halfway House repairs.
Winners and runners-up
There was some great scoring on the day across the three categories. The Mixed teams were topped by the Leavy/Leavy pairing who came in with 38 points. The Men's category was hotly disputed with three pairs coming in with 39 points - Haigh /Forbes
Lewis/Saunders and Sachinis/Tassie. HDA Golf Committee Chairman, Peter Whitehead himself and partner Albert Brown squeezed in an extra shot to get 40 fabulous points and take second place in the competition.
However, it was a ladies' pairing that triumphed, with a stunning 42 points and the 2024 Chairman's trophy went to a very deserving Sue Saunders and Catherine Sachinis! Well done ladies!
