The Greensomes pairs competition drew an impressive crowd of 71 players despite the chilly weather, making it a memorable event for St David’s Day. The cold did not dampen spirits or performance, as the competition unfolded with fierce play and a remarkable tie among the top teams. This blog post takes you through the highlights of the day, the nail-biting finish, and the champions who took home the prized trophy.

The event was more than just a competition; it was a celebration of skill, camaraderie, and the spirit of St David’s Day.

A Strong Turnout on a Cold Day

Despite temperatures that could have discouraged many, 71 players showed up to compete in the Greensomes pairs event. This turnout speaks volumes about the dedication and enthusiasm of the players, as well as the event’s significance in celebrating St David’s Day. The chilly conditions added an extra layer of challenge, testing not only skill but also endurance and focus.

Players arrived early, warmed up, and prepared for a day of strategic play. The pairs format encouraged teamwork and communication, making the competition both social and competitive.

The Intense Tie at the Top

What made this competition especially thrilling was the tie among the top four teams. Each of these teams finished with a score of -3, showing how evenly matched the competition was. This tie meant the winners had to be decided by comparing the teams’ handicaps, with the lower handicap team earning the edge.

The tie highlighted the skill level across the board. Achieving a -3 score in such conditions is no small feat, and having four teams reach this mark shows the depth of talent present. The competition was tight throughout, with every shot and every decision carrying weight.

The trophy went to Tassos Sachini and Christien Dettmer, who had the lowest handicap among the tied teams. Their consistent play and strategic teamwork earned them the top spot with -3!

The mixed pairs teams also finished with the same score making the handicap the deciding factor. The competition also showcased strong performances from other teams who narrowly missed out on the trophy but demonstrated excellent skill and sportsmanship.

And the joke goes on..... The Nearest The Line! It may well have been in outer space, as it was no use to anyone. Better positioning required (Ugolf!) So a draw took place and look who were the honorary winners.... Linda & Adrian. Heather your supposed to smile!

The Halfway House ladies stood in the freezing cold serving goodies and refreshments to golfers for so long they were unable to make it to the après golf. Thank you so much, we really appreciate it, especially in this freezing weather.

The Clubhouse now in full splendour was warm and cosy for the freezing cold players to enjoy, with plenty of coffees and hot toddies being served. All helped along very nicely with a free drinks voucher courtesy of the Committee - Thank you. The seating arrangements are so much more convivial for the larger apres golfer groups. Very nicely set up!

Thank you very much everyone for being part of St David´s Day. See you at St Patrick´s on 21st March and let´s hope for weather has turned towards summer when we next meet.

See you soon.
